Ethnicity Specific Outside Scholarships



The list below represents a sampling of scholarships for which seminary students may by eligible. We also encourage students to search the web, where additional sources of aid may be found. 

An (*) by scholarship name denotes scholarships for which Westminster students have successfully applied.

Vision Scholarship Award 2016
Deadline: June 4
Award: $2,000 per semester
Eligibility Criteria: For Korean American students who 1) attend  seminary school full time, 2) is a permanent resident or citizen of United States, 3) has a vision of serving youth ministry.

Forum for Theological Exploration
FTE nurtures faithful, wise, courageous leaders for the church and the academy. One way they accomplish this mission is by offering diverse young adults, students and partner organizations financial support and opportunities to develop leadership in the face of complex shifts in the church, economy and theological education. Various opportunities are listed, primarily for doctoral students.

Ford Foundation Fellowships (For PhD candidates)
Deadlines: Predoctoral - November 17, 2016, Dissertation phase - November 10, 2016, Supplemental Materials - January 10, 2017
Award: $24,000
Eligibility Criteria: Awards are made to individuals of ethnic and racial diversity who, in the judgment of the review panel, have demonstrated superior academic achievement, are committed to a career in teaching and research at the college or university level, show promise of future achievement as scholars and teachers and are well prepared to use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students. Applicants must be a citizen, national and permanent resident of the United States or individuals granted deferred action status under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program.

Eligibility Criteria:
For Korean-American full time students who have completed one year of seminary.

*Justin Haruyama Scholarship
Deadline: May 31
Eligibility Criteria: The scholarship is offered to persons of Japanese ancestry, preparing for ministerial degrees who intend to serve Japanese American congregations or other church related ministries. Applications are available in MS Word format on the website.

*Korean American Scholarship Foundation
Deadline: July 8
Application Available: April 1
Award: $500-$5,000
Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be enrolled full-time, demonstrate academic excellence (minimum cumultive GPA of 3.0) and show financial need.

New Life Church of Chicago Scholarship Program
Deadline: October31
Award: $1,500
Eligibility Criteria: For Korean American or other ethnic minority students who resides in the USA, need financial aid and meet one of the following requirements: a) is currently studying theology in seminary or graduate school, or b) is a pastor's child or missionary's child who is currently enrolled in college or graduate school. All candidates must have completed a minimum of 8 credit hours from the accredited school and the average grade point should be B or better.
