Happy Thanksgiving!

November 24, 2010

The Staff and Faculty of Westminster Theological Seminary pray that you have a blessed Thanksgiving!

“It is an excellent thing indeed, that we may have a Day of Thanksgiving, while the World is in so much Confusion and Combustion, and every where Men’s hearts are failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are doing upon the Earth. Let us be at some pains, that this Day be not lost, or that it may not evaporate in a few sensual satisfactions. The Excellent things done by God, are now to be the Repast of our Souls.”

Cotton Mather, The wonderful works of God commemorated: praises bespoke for the God of Heaven, in a Thanksgiving sermon, delivered on December 19, 1689.

Words of Thanks from Westminster Staff:

Phil Coffin, educational and information technology specialist:
"I am thankful (as Psalm 93 teaches us) that we have a God who reigns over Creation, the Nations, and His People! No power in nature or man is outside of God's sovereignty and that is something to be thankful for.  I am thankful that we can know and serve our mighty God."

Karla Grafton, circulation manager at Montgomery Library:
"To me, Thanksgiving is all about family (both my birth family and the family of friends God has given to feed my soul). God has blessed me so richly with loving family members and friends who celebrate with me when things go well, lift me up when times are difficult, and hold me in prayer through it all."

Jared Oliphint, director of admissions:
“I’m thankful to God for our students and for sustaining them throughout another semester. The kingdom work that follows in the next few months and eventual years as a result of God’s faithfulness never ceases to amaze me.”

Marsha Blake, references and instructional services librarian:
"
Even though our family encountered serious illness, financial troubles, and even the unexpected death of those precious to us, we all knew that God was with us in every circumstance in life. I am so grateful to God for my upbringing; the certitude of God’s presence in all the storms and joys of life is the greatest gift of all."

Rebecca Cordner, administrator for Academic Affairs:
"Thanksgiving can be bittersweet as we remember our loved ones who are with the Lord. How grateful I am for His redemptive work and the power of the resurrection. Then bitter will turn to sweet on that glorious day when we dine together at the greatest Thanksgiving feast!"

Jeremy Eshelman, coordinator of communications:
"I am thankful to God for the many ways in which he has sustained me in the faith.  Through my family, all the pastors that I have interacted with, and my Christian friends, God has kept me in his grace."

Delise Mitchell, assistant registrar:
"I’d like to thank God for loving kindness towards us all each and every day. Each day he daily loads us with His benefits – His Love, His Grace, His Mercies, Eternal Life through Christ Jesus, His Word, His Promises, His strength, Good Health, Our families – which are on loaner to us each day….the list is endless."

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Colossians 3:17 (ESV)
