Son of Founding Faculty member, Paul Woolley

Edward A. Woolley, friend of the seminary, died on Saturday, August 9, 2014. Dr. Paul Woolley, his father, served as the founding professor of church history and registrar from 1929-1977. Dr. Carl Trueman currently sits as the Paul Woolley Chair of Church History.

Obituary of Mr. Woolley:

Edward A. Woolley, 85, died peacefully at home on Nantucket on August 9, 2014. He was born in Brookline, MA on March 15, 1929 to Helene von der Pahlen Woolley and Paul Woolley. 

He was valedictorian of his class at the William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia and graduated from Princeton University and the University of Pennsylvania Law School. As a recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship to Germany he studied in Bonn and Berlin. Mr. Woolley was an attorney, an avid tennis player and runner, a lifelong student of history and political science and a lover of fine literature and music. He was a strong Christian and defender of the faith. 

Mr. Woolley is survived by his wife, Nancy Jane Woolley and their three children: Paul S. Woolley of Fairfield, CT; David K. Woolley and his wife Rebecca of Yorktown Heights, NY; Mary Alexandra Doty and her husband Adam of Evanston, IL; four grandchildren: Jacob Woolley, Samuel Woolley, Calvin Doty and Gillian Doty; and his brother Arthur P. Woolley of Athens, OH.
