Christianity and Liberalism Italian Translation

January 18, 2012

Dr. Machen's book Christianity and Liberalism will soon be published in Italian.

"Christianity and Liberalism is a masterpiece and without doubt the single most important book ever written by a Westminster professor." - Rev. Dr. Carl R. Trueman

Over 75 years ago, Rev. Dr. J. Gresham Machen was taken up into glory to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  In God's providence, however, Dr. Machen did not leave without giving us one of the most important books of modern Christianity: Christianity and Liberalism.  It has been translated into at least six different languages, and now, this monumental work will be translated into Italian.

Calvary Presbyterian Church in Greenville, South Carolina has a ministry called "Mission to Italy."  As a part of this ministry, they are seeking to publish theological works in Italian.  Here is a note from their website:

It our desire is to see more and more works from other languages translated and published in the Italian langauge. Many of our brethren who work with existing publishing groups do a fine job of translating and publishing a pletheroa of titles that are of use in Italian churches. ...

[Dr. Machen's book] is an important work because the pervasive effects of Liberalism are still present with us today. In Italy, as in the U.S., it can be seen in churches and groups, where theological language and precision may be diluted and confused.

The Italian publisher, Alfa e Omega, has agreed to take up this project. They have already procured copyright permission from the original publisher and are ready to complete work once funds are collected. Dr. Carl Trueman will write the preface for the Italian edition.

The first publication they have chosen to translate is Christianity and Liberalism.

Christianity and Liberalism has been named one of the top 100 books of the 20th century by World Magazine and Christianity Today.  It has been translated into Chinese, Hungarian, Korean, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish.

Rev. Dr. Carl Trueman says of it, "This small book is a veritable treasure trove of giant truths. I would urge all Christians to read it every year, not simply to remind themselves of why Westminster came into existence, but to see why it is crucial that institutions such as Westminster remain faithful to their calling. Above all, this work serves as a reminder of what is really at stake in the struggle for biblical authority, for theological truth-claims, for supernaturalism, and for the exclusivity of Christ: nothing less than the soul of Christianity itself."

Westminster's prayer is that Dr. Machen's book would bless the nation of Italy, as well as many other nations, and bring many to come to know the true God.
