Mr. Pappas (1925-2011) served on Westminster's Board of Trustees, 1970-1981

On July 6th, 2011, Ted Pappas died. Ted served on the Westminster Board from 1970-1981 as both a member and chairman. In 1982 he was elected to be an Honorary Trustee of the Board. In addition to his work with Westminster, Ted was owner of the Keyes Company in Florida.

From the Miami Herald Obituary:

Ted Pappas (85) the beloved Chairman of The Keyes Company passed away Wednesday morning surrounded by his wife and children. Ted lived an abundant life - born in Detroit, Michigan, serving in the Navy during WWII and thereafter attending Duke University.

He moved to Miami in the late '50's and got "sand in his shoes".

Ted joined The Keyes Company in 1962 as Branch Manager of their Kendall office. In 1969 he acquired the company from its founder Kenneth Keyes. Through his leadership the company grew from 117 associates to over 1,700 associates and 25 branch offices today. He is loved and respected by his Keyes management team and Keyes associates.

He was a leader in civic, religious and community activities. Ted was a proud 40 year Rotarian, served on the United Way Cabinet and is an Elder in the Presbyterian Church of America. Ted also served as Chairman of the Local Initiative Support Corp and Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. He also served as Chairman of the Bankers Club, Dade Community Foundation, Greater Miami United, the Miami Board of Realtors and the South Florida Council of Boy Scouts.

He was honored as the Man of the Year, City of Hope, Distinguished Rotarian, Junior Achievement Business leader Hall of Fame and Scout of the Year - South Florida Council of Boy Scouts. He was one of the founders of Westminster Christian School in Palmetto Bay - served on its Board and foundation Board throughout its 50 year history.

He is survived by his loving wife Marie, three children and their spouses - Pandora and Dominick Scotto, Tim and Peggy Pappas and Mike and Kathy Pappas, two stepdaughters - Tara Sword, and Noelle and Mike Abarelli. His 18 grandchildren affectionately called him Papou. Shatzie his maltese dog will miss him also.
