Dr. Poythress on the Radio

Rev. Dr. Vern Poythress, professor of New Testament interpretation, has recently been on several radio programs to talk about his most recent book, Redeeming Sociology.

On May 12th, Dr. Poythress appeared on the "Knowing the Truth" radio program with pastor Kevin Boling, and on May 17th, he appeared on the Janet Mefford show.  Redeeming Sociology advocates a biblically informed model for human relationships—relationships rooted in the Trinitarian character of God, his governance of the world, and his redemption accomplished in Christ.

Introduction to "Knowing the Truth" with Pastor Kevin Boling:

You’ve probably heard somebody say this, and I think it’s certainly true, at least in the sense we’re going to be talking about it today.  They say this very often: ‘It is all about relationships.’ What they mean about that is, when you think about life in general and you think about all that takes place during our life, we realize very quickly that no man is an island and there is a number of various relationships that we are involved in. For example, our relationship with our creator, with God; our relationship with our family, our spouse; our relationship with our business folks that we work with in our offices, the professionals; our relationship with our neighbors.

Really, it is quite true. It all comes down to relationships. Here’s a question though: interpersonal relationships are possible for humans because we are created in the image of a Trinitarian God, but if the Trinity is the model for relationships, why is the human condition rife with pain and evil? How can we think correctly about fallen human relationships, and our models for understanding them? That’s what we’re going to talk about today. We’re going to talk about this idea of "redeeming sociology."  That’s the title of a new book that has been put out by my guest today, Dr. Vern Poythress.
