A Communication to the Westminster Seminary Community

April 09, 2008

The Institutional Personnel Committee of the Board of Westminster Seminary met on Monday, April 7, in Philadelphia to fulfill the assigned task of “recommending the appropriate process for the Board to consider whether Professor Enns should be terminated from his employment at the Seminary.”

The Committee engaged the task with an earnest determination to carefully follow the provisions of all the controlling constitutional documents of the Seminary, namely the Charter, Constitution, By-Laws, and the Faculty Manual. This determination was matched by a sincere concern to develop a recommended process that would be just and fair.

The work of the committee was completed in draft form, but will not be finalized as a firm recommendation until Professor Enns has had an opportunity to carefully study it and to offer his suggestions. After the recommendation has been placed in his hands the Faculty will be fully informed of the draft proposal.

The Board has asked that the Institutional Personnel Committee bring its recommendation to the meeting set for May 20-21. The Committee expects to meet that mandate in such a way that the draft recommendation will be finalized and included with all the other material sent to the Board members for study in advance of the meeting.

The Institutional Personnel Committee is deeply grateful to the entire Seminary community for your prayers for us as we undertook this difficult task.

Charles E. McGowan, Chairman
Institutional Personnel Committee
